difficulty and time are an estimate made while writing, not a measurement.
before you start
- a round where it is snowingusually rounds 2 to 4 and round 10, then at random. the parts cannot be dug up at any other time
- a shovel
- the gramophone and the dig site discthe same two for all four staffs, so this only gets done once
- the generators on the way thereeach staff's disc sits near a different generator, so this ends up being most of the map either way
the steps
two things every staff needs, and they are the same two every time.
the gramophone is on the floor inside the excavation site, to the left of the wooden table. the disc that opens the lower levels is outside, somewhere around it.
with those, the lowest level of the excavation site opens, which is where all four staffs get built.
only while it is snowing, and only with a shovel in hand. dig the marked spots and one part comes up in each third of the map. the second source splits them by generator: one in the generator 2 and 3 area, one in the generator 4 and 5 area, one in the church and generator 6 area.
it usually snows on rounds 2 to 4 and again on round 10, and then at random.
you only get this wrong oncemiss the early snow and you are waiting for round 10. this is the staff to start first for that reason alone.
near generator 2, in one of three places: on the shelf by the back entrance, on the shelf to the right of the mystery box, or on the table near the entrance.
the first source only mentions the shelves, so the table is the one to check when it is not where you expect.
with the blue disc and the gramophone, go into the Crazy Place through the ice tunnel, in the top left corner of the giant footprint at generator 6, by the church. a pedestal opens with a blue glow and the gem comes up out of it.
you only get this wrong oncethe gem only lifts if you came in through its own tunnel.
with the three parts and the gem, build the staff at its own coloured pedestal on the lowest level of the excavation site.
anybody can pick it up afterwards. switch to another weapon, bleed out or disconnect and it goes back to its pedestal rather than being lost.
above the portal there are six floating stone panels with symbols on them, written in base four. on the wall there is a blue ice panel showing a pattern of dots, which is the same number written in base three.
read the dots, work out which stone panel matches, and shoot that one with the ice staff. it flips. do that six times.
you only get this wrong onceshoot the wrong panel and every panel you had already flipped goes back. twelve patterns exist and only six turn up in a game, one per panel.
three gravestones with water running out of them. freeze each one with the ice staff, then shoot it with an ordinary gun to break it:
- to the right of the
MP40wall buy - by the giant footprint opposite the
MP40wall buy - on the small hill going right out of the back of the bunker by generator 2, next to the downed mech's hand
- to the right of the
four floating rings, and four levers that turn them: two on the normal walkway and two on the wooden scaffolding.
turn them until all four rings show your staff's colour, then shoot the orb inside them with the staff. it lights and shoots up into the air.
both sources describe this the same way, and it is the same four rings and the same four levers for every staff.
put the staff on its own pedestal in the Crazy Place and kill about twenty zombies in there. both sources say around twenty. Samantha says the power of that element is available, and the icon gets an outline.
pick the upgraded staff back up off the pedestal. lose it later and it goes back to the excavation site, still upgraded: this is done once.
arrow keys or j and k to move, d to tick this one off.
all of it, done.
